• TYPE LOCALITY. "S. Russia" [Sevastopol, Crimea].

• RANGE. N. Africa, SW. and SE. Europe to E. Kazakhstan, Asia Minor to the Middle East and N. Iran.

• DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The S. European part, the Caucasus Major and Minor, the Armenian Highland, Talysh, Turan, N. Tian-Shan (Zailiisky Alatau), Dzhungarsky Alatau, the S. Altai are inhabited by the nominate subspecies (= erothoe Eversmann, 1832; = menestho Menetries, 1832).

• TAXONOMIC NOTES. Some authors believe the taxon menestho to be a distinct subspecies.

• HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Steppe and semi-desert landscapes not higher than 1,000 m a.s.1. in the mountains. Flight period: April-June. Host plants (Nekrutenko, 1990, Danchenko, pers. corn.): Sinapis, Raphanus, Sisymbrium polymorphum, CcLmelina laxa. Pupa hibernating.

• SIMILAR SPECIES. Microzegris pyrothoe: smaller, UNH white spots long.

• TYPE LOCALITY. "Krasnowodsk" [Turkmenia].

• RANGE. From Iraq and Iran across S. Middle Asia and Afghanistan to Pakistan.

• DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Kopet-Dagh, E. Kara-Kum, S. Ghissar, foothills of Zailiisky Alatau and the Ili River valley, all populated by the nominate subspecies.

• HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Steppe and semi-desert to desert landscapes up to 1,500 m a.s.1. in the mountains. Flight period: April-June. Host plants: Crambe kotschyana and Sisymbrium. Pupa hibernating.

• SIMILAR SPECIES. Microzegris pyrothoe: smaller, UNH white spots long.
