· TYPE LOCALITY. "India".

· RANGE. N. India and China to Thailand, Korea, Japan, the Ussuri region and the Kuriles.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. In the old literature, this species was usually listed under the name argus Butler, 1866, which is in fact only the spring form. The ssp. hampeia Fruhstorfer, 1911 has been described from the S. Ussuri region, and the ssp. jezoensis Matsumura, 1928 from Kunashir Island, S. Kuriles.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Mainly mixed woodlands up to the upper forest line. Flight period: June-July. Host plants in Japan (Fukuda et al., 1983): Poa annua, Echinochloa crusgalli, Digitaria, Elytrigia, etc.
