· TYPE LOCALITY. "Monte Libano Syriae prope Arissam" [Lebanon].

· RANGE. From Lebanon and Syria across Asia Minor to E. Turkey, the Caucasus and Kopet-Dagh.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Represented by the following subspecies: ssp. persica (Christoph, 1877) - the Caucasus Major and Minor, the Armenian Highland and Talysh; ssp. tekkensis (Heyne, [1895]) - Kopet-Dagh.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Dry slopes with thin xerophytic vegetation at 1,000-3,000 m a.s.l. Host plant (Hesselbarth et al., 1995): Poa annua. Flight period: June-August.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. P. schahrudensis: fringes white; FW androconial spot usually conspicuous; androconial scales different. P. beroe aurantiaca: wings produced; UPF eye-spots blind. P. panjshira: fringes white or whitish-brown; UPF eye-spots blind.
