Pseudochazara beroe rhena (Herrich-Schaffer, 1852) · TYPE LOCALITY. "Auf den Anhahen bei Constantinopel selten, auf dem Olymp bei Brussa tfter" [Stambul and Bursa, Turkey]. · RANGE. From W. Turkey across S. Transcaucasia and the Elburs Mts. to Kopet-Dagh. · DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The Armenian Highland - ssp. rhena (Herrich-Schaffer, 1852); Kopet-Dagh - ssp. aurantiaca (Staudinger, 1871). · HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Dry clayey and stony habitats at 1,400-2,500 m a.s.l. Flight period: end of June to August. · SIMILAR SPECIES. P. pelopea: wings rounded; UPF eye-spots with white pupils; UPS band bright ochreous-yellow. P. panjshira: fringes white or whitish-brown; androconial scales different. P. schakuhensis: UPS ground colour dark, and postdiscal band reduced.
