· TYPE LOCALITY. "Alai-Gebirge; ...Provinz Samarkand" [Iordan, Alaisky Mts., Kirghizia].
· RANGE. Ghissar, Alai, Darvaz.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The nominate subspecies inhabits Alai; ssp. maida Churkin et Tuzov, in press - Ghissar; and ssp. yaktchashma Churkin et Tuzov, in press - Darvaz. The infrasubspecific form erebus (Grum-Grshimailo, 1889) was described from Pass Kyzyl-Art in the east of the Zaalaisky Mts.
· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Edges of screes at 2,800-3,900 m a.s.l. Flight period: July-August.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. P. nero: apex of FW sharpened, eye-spot round with a single white pupil, white dots on UNH greatly reduced or absent.
