· TYPE LOCALITY. "Wien" [Vienna, Austria].

· SYNONYMS: hermione Linnaeus, 1767, nom. praeoccup.; aelia Hoffmannsegg, 1804.

· RANGE. The northern, central and western areas of W. Europe.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The SW. European part - the nominate subspecies.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Edges of coniferous and mixed forests. Flight period: June-July. Host plants (Henriksen, Kreutzer, 1982): Brachypodium pinnatum, B. silvaticum, Festuca rubra.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. H. fagi: larger; UPS pale bands whitish; UNH pattern contrasting; genitalia different.
