· TYPE LOCALITY. "SO-Kasachstan, Taldy-Kurganer Gebiet, Dsungarski-Alatau, loc. Kapal, 1300 m" [Kopal, 1,300 m a.s.l., Dzhungarsky Alatau, SE. Kazakhstan].

· RANGE. Dzhungarsky Alatau and the adjacent mountains; the Ketmen Mts.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Steppe habitats with exposed rock and stones, especially near streams (unlike the similar H. lycaon catamelas which prefers various grassy associations), at 1,000-1,600 m a.s.l. Flight period: July-August.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. H. lycaon catamelas: male UPS uniform black-brown, as a rule, without traces of ochreous colour; eye-spots smaller; female UPF with ochreous colour only as a narrow border of eye-spots; UNH in both sexes darker (without greyish tinge) and monotonous. H. przhewalskyi: larger; wings broader; female ochreous colour only around FW eye-spots; HW outer edge less strongly undulate and UNH ground colour uniform.
