· TYPE LOCALITY. "...in Montibus Altaicus Sibiriae" [Altai Mts., Russia].

· SYNONYMS: lederi Goltz, 1930; hilaris Goltz, 1930; approximata Warren, 1930.

· RANGE. Mountains of S. Siberia and Mongolia.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The Altai and Sayan Mts., Tuva (the Tannu-Ola Mt. Range). Apart from the nominate subspecies known from the Altai, the taxa tshugunovi Korshunov et Ivonin, 1995, from W. Siberia, and shoria Korshunov et Ivonin, 1995, from Mountainous Shoria (the Kuznetsky Alatau Mts.), have been described. However, individual variation in the species exceeding the geographical one, as a rule, the latter two subspecies are doubtful.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Montane meadows at 500-2,500 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-July. Larvae hibernating.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. E. maurisius: smaller; fringes brown; FW postdiscal band not narrowing towards dorsum.
