Erebia pawlowskii Menetries, 1859 · TYPE LOCALITY. "...de la riviere Grande Sibagli" [Great Sibagly River basin, central Yakutia, Russia]. · RANGE. From the Sayan Mts. and N. Mongolia across Yakutia to Kamchatka; N. America. · DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. This taxon has been treated earlier as a subspecies of E. maurisius. The nominate subspecies (= herzi Christoph, 1889) is distributed in the Chukot Peninsula, Kamchatka, Transbaikalia and the Far East. In the E. Sayan Mts., the ssp. sajana Staudinger, 1894 has been recorded. · HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Meadows and sparse larch forests up to 1,500 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-July. Host plants in N. America (Scott, 1986): Carex spp. Hibernation twice. · SIMILAR SPECIES. E. maurisius: UNF and UNH pale postdiscal bands better developed and uniform in colour.
