LEPIDOPTERA

Erebia occulta Roos et Kimmich, 1983
Erebia occulta Roos et Kimmich, 1983

· TYPE LOCALITY. "150 km, Dempster Hwy., Yukon Territory" [Canada].

· SYNONYM: phellea Philipp et Troubridge, 1983.

· RANGE. From the Sayan Mts. to NE. Yakutia, Alaska and arctic Canada.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The E. Sayan Mts. - ssp. iltshira Belik, 1996; NE. Yakutia - ssp. jakuta Dubatolov, 1992; mountain tundras of S. Siberia - ssp. sokhondinka Dubatolov et Zintshenko in Gorbunov et Korshunov, 1995.

· TAXONOMIC NOTES. A revision of the occulta-group is required, as American specimens differ from the Far Eastern counterparts too much to name the latter occulta. In this case the name anyuica Kurentzov, 1966 might be useful, but its type material is lost and the description gives no reliable diagnostic characters.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Stony slopes up to 2,300 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-July.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. E. kozhantshikovi, E. dabanensis, E. fletcheri: UNH postdiscal band well-defined; UPF ocelli larger.
