· TYPE LOCALITY. Unknown, probably the W. Sayan Mts.
· RANGE. From the Altai, Tuva and N. Mongolia across Middle and S. Siberia to Sakhalin and the Magadan Region.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Geographical variation is not great. In addition to the nominate subspecies, the following names have been proposed: ssp. fasciola Warren, 1931 (= altaica Goltz, 1930, nom. praeoccup.; = minima Goltz, 1930, infrasubspecies) - the Altai Mts.; ssp. septentrionalis Esaki et Hori, 1929 - Sakhalin, but the latter taxon seems to differ from the nominate form only in its disjunct, insular distribution pattern.
· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Meadows, forest edges and clearings up to 2,000 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-July. Larvae hibernating.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. E. ligea: larger; male FW with an androconial area.
