· TYPE LOCALITY. "...bei der Kirche Tzminda-Sameba, Kazbek, Kaukasus" [Mt. Kazbek, Caucasus Major].
· RANGE. From the Caucasus to N. Iran and Turkey.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The Caucasus Major - the nominate subspecies (= dromus Fabricius, 1846; = hippocoon Niesiolowski, 1937; = caucasica Korshunov, Antonova et Kotshetova, 1984); the Caucasus Minor - ssp. transcaucasica Warren, 1950. The attribution of specimens from the Armenian Highland to the ssp. savalanica de Lesse, 1955 requires confirmation.
· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Steppe-clad slopes at 1,700-3,000 m a.s.l. Flight period: July-August.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. E. iranica: UPF red-brown area not reaching the discal vein; genitalia different.
