   Erebia fasciata Butler, 1868

· TYPE LOCALITY. "Arctic America" [Victoria Islands, Canada].

· RANGE. Arctic coastal areas of Eurasia and N. America.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Polar tundras of the European part and Siberia, the W. Chukot Peninsula and the Far East - ssp. semo Grum-Grshimailo, 1899, described from between Khatanga and Olenek rivers in NE. Siberia; the E. Chukot Peninsula and Wrangel Island - ssp. avinoffi Holland, 1930.

· TAXONOMIC NOTES. American specimens differ from those from the Far East of Russia in the presence of an androconial spot and some characters of male genitalia. Based on these differences, some authors consider the taxon semo as a distinct species. In our opinion, however, these differences may be referred to individual variation.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Lowland and mountain tundras. Flight period: June-August. Host plant (Gorbunov, Korshunov, 1995): Carex.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. E. magdalena: UNH postdiscal band reduced or absent.
