· TYPE LOCALITY. "Riesengebirge" [Sudety Mts., Czech Republic].

· SYNONYMS: uralensis Goltz, 1930; iremelica Korshunov, 1995.

· RANGE. The Alps, the Carpathians, N. Europe from Finland to the Urals.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Mountains of the European part (the Carpathians, Karelia, Urals). The distribution of the species is disjunct, the boreal populations being known under the name euryaloides Tengstrom, 1869. Individuals from the Urals show no differences from European ones.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Mountain meadows at 500-1,500 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-August. Host plants (Eckstein, 1913; Henriksen, Kreutzer, 1982; Gorbunov, Korshunov, 1995): various grasses, viz. Digitaria, Milium, Festuca. Hibernation twice.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. E. ligea: larger; UPF ocelli well-developed and often with a white nucleus; male FW with an androconial area. E. arctica: much smaller; UPS red-brown bands reduced and always without ocelli.
