Pyrgus andromedae (Wallengren, 1853)

• TYPE LOCALITY. Dalarne [Norway].

• RANGE. Mountains of Europe (Fennoscandia, the Pyrenees, the Alps, the Carpa-thians, high mountains of Yugoslavia and Greece) up to the Polar Urals in the east.

• DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Mountains of the European part (the Carpa-thians, the Khibiny, the Polar Urals).

• HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Tundras and alpine habitats up to 2,500 m a.s.l. Flight period: May-August in a single generation. Host plants (Henriksen, Kreutzer, 1982): Malva and Alchemilla (A. glomerulans in Fennoscandia).

• SIMILAR SPECIES. P. centaureae: FW less strongly pointed, UPF white spots broad, UNH ground colour dark, central discal spot not extended basad. The following three species are very much alike superficially. A reliable identification of the species can be made only upon examination of the genitalia (Fig.).
