· TYPE LOCALITY. "...Alai Gebirge, in der Nahe des Dorfes Jordan" [Iordan, Alaisky Mts., Kirghizia].
· RANGE. From central and Inner Tian-Shan across Ghissar-Alai to NE. Afghanistan and the E. Pamirs.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. A relatively widely distributed species forming a number of well-defined subspecies:
ssp. jordana (Staudinger, 1882) - the Alaisky Mts. (northern slopes);
ssp. roxana (Grum-Grshimailo), 1887 (= fasciata Staudinger, 1887, nom. praeoccup.) - the Alaisky Mts. (southern slopes), the Zaalaisky Mts.;
ssp. subocellata Staudinger, 1901 - Darvaz;
ssp. shachristana (J.L. et J.J. Shchetkin, 1991) - Ghissar;
ssp. summa (Avinov, 1910) - the E. Pamirs;
ssp. helios (O. Bang-Haas, 1927) - central and Inner Tian-Shan.
· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Eroded rock at 2,000-4,000 m a.s.l. Flight period: July.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. P. icelos: fringes chequered black and white; UPH always without red band; UPF red band diffused and not reaching the vein 2a.
