· TYPE LOCALITY. "Siberia" [E. Chukot Region].

· RANGE. Polar regions of America and Eurasia.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The following subspecies have been described: ssp. oeno (Boisduval, 1832) (= tschukotkensis Kurentzov, 1970) - the Chukot Peninsula (east); ssp. antonovae Lukhtanov, 1989 - polar tundras of Siberia; ssp. paior Lukhtanov, 1989 - the Polar Urals.

· TAXONOMIC NOTES: The species is often confused with O. melissa, being diffe-rent in fact only in the genitalia. With high probability may be found in mountain tundras of Transbaikalia, Sayan and the Altai Mts. In N. America, this species is known under the name O. philipi Troubridge, 1988; at present the lack of material does not allow to decide if it is a synonym or subspecies of O. oeno.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Shingle-stone screes. Flight period: June-July.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. O. melissa: fringes chequered; antennae reddish-yellow; male androconial area obscure; genitalia different .
