· TYPE LOCALITY. "...Assamayama...about 7000 ft." [Mt. Asama-Yama, 2,800 m a.s.l., Japan].
· RANGE. Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, Japan.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Sakhalin - the nominate subspecies (= scoparia Butler, 1881); the Kuriles - ssp. doii Nakahara, 1926.
· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Forest edges, clearings and meadows in the mixed forest zone up to 1,000 m a.s.l. Flight period: July-August. Host plants in Japan (Fukuda et al., 1983): Carex and Calamagrostis.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. E. ligea: UPF and UPH bands uniform in colour.
