· TYPE LOCALITY. "... aus den Gebirgen bei Osch" [S. of Osh, Alaisky Mts., Kirghizia].

· RANGE. From the Alaisky Mts. to N. and Inner Tian-Shan.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Alai - the nominate subspecies (= mopsos Staudinger, 1886; = gertha Staudinger, 1886); W. and N. Tian-Shan (the Kirghizsky Mts.) - ssp. alexandra Staudinger, 1877; mountains around Lake Issyk-Kul - ssp. issyka Staudinger, 1887. The rest of N., central and Inner Tian-Shan is populated by the ssp. (bona sp.?) melanops Christoph, 1889, the type-locality of which is not quite clear ("Samarcand"). The relations between the taxa meta and melanops require a revision as based on a more abundant material.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Montane meadows at 2,700-3,800 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-August.
