· RANGE. The Amur and Ussuri regions, E. China to N. Korea and Japan.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Transbaikalia (local), the Middle Amur and Ussuri regions (the nominate subspecies). In the Sakhalin and Kuril Islands, the insular form tutanus Ponton, 1881 (= kurilensis Matsumura, 1928) shows little difference from the former. Seasonal dimorphism is well-marked: the spring generation (f. raddei Bremer, 1861) differing sharply from summer specimens both in size and wing coloration.
· HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Most common in lowland and montane (up to 2,000 In a.s.l.) mixed forests with Phellodendrorl amurensis, the host plant (Graeser, 1888; Kurentzov, 1970; etc.). In outbreak years, larvae may feed also on herbaceous Rutaceae. Flight period: April-September in two, sometimes three, generations. Pupation mostly on the host plant; pupa hibernating.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. P. bianor. UPH postdiscal area without blue or green metallic color.
