· RANGE. SE. China to S. Korea, Japan, Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Reliable records are only from Sakhalin and the Kuriles: ssp. nakacharae Matsumura, 1929 (= paradoxa. Nakohara, 1924, nom. praeoccup.; = sachalinensis Matsumura, 1925) from Sakhalin, and ssp. doii Matsumura, 1928 from the Kuriles. The presence of the ssp. mandshurica Matsumura, 1927 in the S. Ussuri region requires confirmation. Seasonal and geographical variations in different parts of the range are well expressed.
· HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. In contrast to P. maackii, this species has a single generation flying in July-August. Host plant: Phellodendron sachalinense.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. P. maackii. UPH postdiscal area of a shining blue or green metallic color.
