· RANGE. From the Altai Mts. across central and S. Siberia to the Far East, Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands; from Mongolia across N. China to W. Korea and Japan.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The nominate subspecies occurs in the Sayan Mts., Transbaikalia and Yakutia. The other subspecies are: ssp. typicus Bryk, 1914 (the Altai Mts.); ssp. standfussi Bryk, 1912 (the lower Amur basin); ssp. bodemeyeri Bryk, 1914 (the remaining Amur region and the N. Ussuri region); ssp. koreana Verity, 1907 (the S. Ussuri region); ssp. doit Matsumura, 1928 (the Kuriles); ssp. esaku Nakohara, 1926 (Sakhalin Is.); ssp. kosterini Kreuzberg et Pljushch, 1992 (the Magadan Region in the extreme northeast of the range). The ssp. esaka and doll are referred by some authors to P. hoenei (Schweitzer, 1912) on the basis of slight differences in the genitalia; in our opinion, however, there are no sufficient grounds for such an arrangement.
· HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Preferring open habitats in the taiga belt; in the mountains up to the subeltpine zone (1,000-2,000 In a.s.l.). Flight period: May- June, at high altitudes June-July. Host plants: Corydalis spp. (C. gigantea, C. ambigua, etc.) .
