· RANGE. Ghissar, the Pamirs-Alai, Inner Tian-Shan (west), NW. India, WE. Afghanistan, N. Pakistan and W. China.
· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Over its range, several similar subspecies are distinguished: ssp. variabilis Stichel, 1906 (= diana Bryk, 1934) - Ghissar, Alai, Inner Tian-Shan (Chartash Mts.); ssp. rubicundus Stichel, 1906 - the W. Pamirs; ssp. pamirus 0. Bang-Haas, 1927 - the E. Pamirs.
· HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. High-altitude meadows and stony slopes at 2,900- 4,500 m a.s.l. Flight period: July-August. Host plants (Kreuzberg, 1984): Rhodiola spp.
· SIMILAR SPECIES. P. tianschanicus. larger, UPH without red basal spots. P. actius UPH without red basal spots.
