· TYPE LOCALITY. "Iran, Farsistan (Schiraz, Persepolis)".

· RANGE. From S. Transcaucasia and Turkey to Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Middle Asia.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. S. Ghissar, the W. Pamirs - the nominate subspecies; Kopet-Dagh - ssp. laeta (Christoph, 1877); the Armenian Highland - ssp. macrophthalma Eversmann, 1851.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Stony semi-desert habitats on mountain slopes at 1,200-3,000 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-August.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. H. stulta: UPS ground colour paler; UPH marginal border dirty white; UPH apical spot always without white pupil.
