Hyponephele lycaonoides D. Weiss, 1978 · TYPE LOCALITY. "Marg-e-Malek, 30 km von Kuhrang, 3200 m, Lurestan, Westiran" [Zagros Mts., Luristan Prov., Iran]. · RANGE. NE. Turkey, W. Iran and S. Transcaucasia. · DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. Armenia; only a single record each is known from the Khosrov Reserve and Azizbekov (now Vaik). The subspecific attribution of the Armenian populations requires a study of its own. · HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Steppe habitats with exposed stones, stony banks of mountain streams at 1,600 m a.s.l. or even higher. Flight period: July. · SIMILAR SPECIES. H. lycaon: smaller; wings conspicuously narrower and pointed; male UPS without ochreous area; UPF androconial area narrower; FW outer edge less strongly undulate, ground colour darker and uniform.
