· TYPE LOCALITY. "Steyermark" [Austria].

· SYNONYMS: lappona Thunberg, 1791; orientalis Goltz, 1930, nom. praeoccup.; yernikensis Korshunov, 1995.

· RANGE. Mountains of Europe, S. Siberia and Mongolia.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The species shows little variation, so subspecies can hardly be distinguished.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Stony steppe-clad slopes at 1,500-2,500 m a.s.l.; in the north, together with tundra habitats, it descends down to sea-level. Flight period: June-August. Larvae hibernating twice. Host plants in Europe (Henriksen, Kreutzer, 1982): Festuca, Poa and other grasses.
