· TYPE LOCALITY. "...mountains near Namangan" [Chatkalsky Mts., Uzbekistan].

· RANGE. The mountains of the Pamirs-Alai, Ghissar and Tian-Shan to the Altai Mts., including the adjacent areas of China and Mongolia.

· DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The form eupompus Stauder, 1924 (= heptopotamica Sheljuzhko, 1929), described from Dzhungarsky Alatau, most probably belongs to this species. The S. Altai (the Sailyughem Mts.) supports the ssp. subcaeca Heyne, [1894]. The nominate subspecies flies over the remaining part of the range.

· HABITAT AND BIOLOGY. Inhabiting humid meadows and banks of streams in the alpine and subalpine zones at 2,500-3,500 m a.s.l. Flight period: June-July. Host plants: Carex spp.

· SIMILAR SPECIES. C. tullia: FW with an apical eye-spot. C. pamphilus: UPS termen more or less strongly darkened; FW with an apical eye-spot.
