LEPIDOPTERA
Melitaea sutschana Staudinger, 1892 • TYPE LOCALITY. «Sutschan-Gebiete» [Suchan (Partizansk), Ussuri region, Russia]. • SYNONYMS. sutschcinala Bryk, 1940; transbaicalica Bryk, 1940. • RANGE. From Transbaikalia to the Amur and Ussuri regions, Sakhalin; Mongolia, NE. China, Korea. • DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The nominotypical form is known to occur in the mainland part of the distribution area. From Sakhalin Island, the ssp. graeseri P. Gorbunov, 1995 has been described. • HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Steppe-like meadows and slopes up to 1,000 m a.s.l. Flight period: July to August. • SIMILAR SPECIES. Melitaea didymoides: submarginal lunules of UPH obscure or absent.
