LEPIDOPTERA
Pyrgus maculatus (Bremer et Grey, 1853) • TYPE LOCALITY. "environs de Pekin" [Beijing, China]. • SYNONYMS: zonaMabille, 1875; albistriga Mabille, 1876. • RANGE. Central and E. Asia from S. Siberia and Mongolia to N. Burma and Japan. • DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. S. Siberia from the Altai Mts. to the Ussuri region. There are two very different seasonal forms formerly considered as separate species. • HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Flight in grassy meadows and at forest edges in May-June and July-August in two generations. Host plants in Ussuri region (Graeser, 1888): Spiraea (S. ussuriensis, S. media); in Japan, larvae have been recorded on Potentilla freyniana (Fukuda et al., 1984).
